Faye’s devotion to daughter

Faye TurneyFaye Turney spoke of her love for her three-year-old daughter just hours before being captured, it has been revealed.

Mrs Turney is the only woman among 15 British sailors and marines captured last Friday off the coast of Iraq.

In an interview, hours before she was captured, Mrs Turney spoke of her feelings for her daughter Molly and her devotion to her job.

She said: “She’s getting more of a character each day. It’s a shame I’m missing that but she’s a top girl and will grow up to be a very reliable, independent, strong young woman, which is exactly what I want for her.”

Mrs Turney described the youngster, who is being cared for by her husband Adam, a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy in Plymouth, as “an absolute gem”.

Mr and Mrs Turney were married in 2002 at her family’s local church in Oxon, Shrewsbury. Their daughter was also christened at the church. Mrs Turney’s mother and father – former Shrewsbury Town player Alan Boswell – are both members of the church.

Mrs Turney, 26, also spoke of the risks of serving in the Royal Navy.

She said: “My parents made sure that I was under no illusions that I could and can go to war at any time – that was the choice I made.

“It can be a bit like a cruise sometimes, being in the Navy, but you’ve got to have it in the back of your head that sometimes you may be called upon, and when you do you’ve just got to deal with it and get on with it.”

Thank you, Shropshire Star. You are one of the few newspapers to have offered an objective perspective about Faye Turney’s ordeal. I felt disgusted to see many newspapers engaging in a rather futile debate about if “it was appropiate or not to send mothers to war”. Some people have even put the blame on Ms. Turney: she has been acussed of distracting attention from the other captives (as if she had chosen to be paraded on TV) and also of not “putting her baby first” (Her baby is being well looked after by her husband. Why she is being judged differently to those male soldiers who leave their children under the care of their wives, it is a mystery to me).
All my sympathy to her family. Let’s hope for a peaceful and happy ending.

    Dear Faye!
As an Iranian I am strongly opposed to what the dictatorial regime ruling my country has done to you and your colleaugues. But, let’s make it clear that this is clearly and purely an imminent result of the shameful APPEASEMENT POLICY that Britain and other western countries have been pursuing!with no fruit except embolding the fundamentalist regime.
    Be strong and firm.
God Bless you and your daughter Molley
    Take care Hamid Taherzadeh
