Wyle Cop women

Wyle Cop women Forget the glamour of Wisteria Lane - Bree, Susan, Gabrielle and Lynette have nothing on the women of Shropshire’s own Wyle Cop.

While Wisteria may be the ultimate in tinseltown glitz, Wyle Cop is unique chic at its best.

A haven for the fashionista, culinary diva and all those domestic goddesses this is certainly one of the streets in Shropshire to give the traditional shopping spree just the right kind of revamp.

From top to toe and back again it is all about “me-time”. Almost every shop is an independent, stripped of the faceless High Street mass-production goods which so often are cheap but soulless.

This is where you find the dress that truly wows, the cute pair of shoes that step out ahead of the crowd, the kitchen gadget for the select dinner party, the pampering indulgent kind of lotions and potions and the statement piece that takes interior design to a new level.

It is the perfect gateway to Shrewsbury and one which is run mostly by women.

Not many towns in Britain can boast such a enticing selling point and proof positive that girl power is alive and kicking in the 21st century.

Fay Easton, Shropshire Enterprise director, maintains it is certainly an appealing part of the town with a glamorous group of owners who have given it an inspiration identity.

“It is a great street with a quirky character which is all the better because of the individual shops which line the Wyle Cop,” said Fay.

“Shrewsbury prides itself on a wealth of independent traders who do offer something different to both the regular shopper and the tourist browser. And the girls there are fabulous. They all have such amazing confidence in their specialist area and they know their stuff.

“They have also thought long and hard about what area they have targeted and how they could bring something different in. So many people have mentioned how much they love the walk from the car parks either side of the English Bridge into the town square because it takes them past so many lovely shops.”

The list is endless including Viners, Juliet Chilton at Tudor Galleries and Hunters on the home front with Grace, Cara, Quelque Chose, Blushies and Oberon making an impact on the fashion scene and the Nice Cream Company proving us with our very own high-end cosmetics counter. Marvellous Cooking and Chocolate Gourmet are packed with sweet treats and then there’s the flower shop, the Lion Hotel for a coffee and Flying Pig for the most unusual gifts. Or what about Tanners for a splash of every girls’s favourite bubbles - champagne - or Holistica for a well-deserved pampering treatment.

The shopping is literally retail therapy at its most therapeutic.
