Beetle not for sale

janes-beetle-1.jpgMy first real love affair was with my car and, like all first loves, I have never forgotten it, writes Jane from Bridgnorth.

My old blue VW Beetle taught me to drive and gave me a liking for driving that I had never had before.

It took me places when I was sad and blue to cheer me up, ferried the whole family around and even took them on holiday - it had some sort of magical tardis-like boot that was tiny but seemed to swallow up masses of stuff!

Then came the day I made the worse decision of my life. I was given a company car and sold my pride and joy. What a big mistake!

For months afterwards I would see it driving around town and feel like I was missing a special and very dear friend.

janes-beetle-2.jpgTime passed but I never forgot my Beetle. About four years ago the situation changed again as I no longer had a company car, so I decided to buy something.

But what? Another Beetle? Now I was older and wiser, I still yearned for the car’s idiosycratic character and charm but also needed a heater that worked, fuel economy and a few mod cons.

Then it came to me - I went to look at the new Beetle. Test drove it. Loved it. It did have lots of character but still boasted plenty of mod cons.

Of course, it had to be blue too. I’ve now had that car for four years - it does have a few bumps and marks but I’ve cleverly covered them up with pretty decals!

The Beetle now takes me everywhere and it’s great when other Beetle drivers (old and new) raise a hand in salute.

Us Beetle owners never change. We just mature a little!

    Beetle not for sale

Beetles are very similar to their humans, they are warm, bubbly and always hoping to cheer someone up on the gloomiest of days. My beetle is my ray of sunshine that keeps me going all year round. She reflects my personality to a T and like the birds on it, I imagine that I can fly off into the sunset whenever the mood takes me. The beetle is not an economy car, no siree, its a get out and drive your car sort of girl and likes too be appreciated and handled well. A beetle is a love affair that will never end for when the outside rusts and wrinkles, its whats at the heart of her that counts.
