Talks on town loyalty card

The town’s Chamber of Trade is considering the idea of introducing a Loyal to Ludlow affinity card to encourage people to shop in the town.

A range of options for the card is being put forward, including a Ludlow credit card, or a point-collecting card, or even a special discount card.

Chamber chairman Peter Cook said: “We have been exploring different options and looking at other chambers of trade to see how their loyalty cards work.

“It could be that people get a card for free and collect points when they use the town’s shops, and once they get a certain amount they are entered for a prize draw.

“Or it could be that people could buy a card which then entitles them to the first hour of parking free, or a number of other alternatives. It is just an idea at the moment.”

The chamber will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the scheme and all business people in the town are invited to attend to explore how and if it could work.

It will take place at The Bull Hotel from 5.30pm to 7.30pm as part of the chamber’s monthly Business at the Bull meeting.

Mr Cook said the idea was to promote shopping in Ludlow and the chamber had been exploring a number of ways to do it.

He said it had asked South Shropshire District Council and Shropshire County Council about advertising on the back of on-street and off-street car park tickets and had asked Ludlow Town Council to use its static boards in the off-street car parks to boost the benefits of shopping locally.

He added: “We’ve worked with the food festival, with Fairtrade Ludlow, and with Local to Ludlow, and are helping to develop a café trail with local traders which will help promote local produce and local producers, and extend the reach of the Local to Ludlow brand.”

Mr Cook said the chamber had also asked the Ludlow Market Towns Initiative to investigate adopting the New Economics Foundation’s ‘Plugging the Leaky Bucket’ project to develop Ludlow’s local economy.
