Councillors in a Shropshire town fear their free car parks are being filled by commuters heading to Telford Town Centre.
Oakengates had already been affected by shoppers deserting it for the town centre.
But now it appears motorists are leaving their cars there before getting a bus to Telford Town Centre.
Brian Norton, Oakengates Town Council chairman, said shoppers were saving upwards of £5 each for a day’s parking.
He said the council could change its rules but this was likely to affect local businesses.

What do the council expect? Drivers are sick of being hit in the pocket all the time with car parking charges. You don’t even get the first half hour free any more. It will get worse if Telford is targeted for congestion charging. I don’t shop in Telford Town Centre anymore because of the parking charges.
We have the exact same problem at our offices because we are on the outskirts of the shopping centre we have people who flaunt the rules even though we have a sign stating it is private and the worst offenders are taxi drivers. They should have left the first half an hour free, which gave the taxi’s more leverage and people who are picking up and dropping off. Regular shoppers will take long than half an hour anywhere so they wont lose out.
The goverment want us to use public tranport so were using public transport. Its like a Park And Ride service!! Lower the bus fares and we may even use a bus all the way to work and leave the car at home!
put parking meters in its only
natural that people will plonk
their car anywere it will go
when my home town was free there was nowhere at all to park
when charges came in you could ,and still can allways find
a space
