Cash has winged its way to the Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal from Newtown in Mid Wales thanks to the generosity of two local lodges of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.
The Buffs have been raising money for various causes over the last three years.
Although their main charity this year is the Guide Dogs For The Blind, they have dipped in to their coffers to send £50 for our appeal, which aims to raise £70,000 to get a Flying Doctor into the air as part of the crew of the Shropshire-based air ambulance.
“It’s a good cause, and we have supported the air ambulance in the past,” said Bob Sinclair, a member of the Pembridge Lodge.
The Buffs have sent £25 each from the two Newtown lodges - the John Charles Lodge, and the Pembridge Lodge.
Meanwhile the clock is counting to a darts evening at the Ellesmere Comrades Sports and Social Club on Friday, starting at 7.30pm, which will raise cash for our appeal.
It will include a raffle and name-the-doll competition.
And money is continuing to come in to our appeal office taking our total raised, in less than a month since we launched the fundraising effort, to just on £6,000.
It’s a good start, but there’s still a long way to go, so if you have got something planned don’t forget to let us know. Drop a line to: Toby Neal, Shropshire Star, Ketley, Telford, Shropshire TF1 5HU, phone (01952) 241458, or e-mail tneal@shropshirestar.co.uk
