Andrew and Lesley Lord and their children live in one of the most historic, stylish and unique houses in Admaston.
Number 8 Donnerville Hall, Donnerville Drive, Admaston forms part of Donnerville Hall and is a Grade II listed building.
The main body of Donnerville Hall dates back to the early 19th century and an extension was added in the late 19th century.
The hall was derelict for a number of years before developers restored and converted it eight years ago into two luxury apartments and a four bedroomed house - number 8.
The developers created an elegant home with original features and bags of character. It is very distinctive and clearly a one off.
It has a reception hall, cloakroom, breakfast/kitchen, utility room, dining room, living room, master bedroom with en suite shower room, three further bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Outside is a detached double garage, lawned front garden and private, professionally landscaped rear garden with patio area, gravel bed with shrubs and a pebble water feature.
It also has raised decking, a large sandpit play area, lawn, well stocked borders and mature holly and conifer trees.
Original features include tall sash windows and very high 10ft 3in ceilings.
The Lords bought Number 8 four years ago. As they now wish to move to be nearer family they have put their home up for sale through Nick Tart of Telford Centre for £317,500, with no chain (Details correct at time of publication - February 2007) .
Lesley said: “Hopefully it will appeal to someone who wants a four-bedroomed house but wants something different; something with history, and in a very good location. It is also so quiet here.”
Lesley works part time as a dispatcher for ShropDoc, while Andrew is a contracts manager for an engineering firm.
Lesley and her husband had been living in a barn conversion when they decided to buy Number 8.
They liked its uniqueness, and the fact that it is tucked away, at the end of Donnerville Drive, and bordered by protected woodland, greatly appealed to them.
Lesley said: “The house is exclusive and unique. There’s no other house like it.”
She said that it was her mother-in-law and late father-in-law, who lived nearby, who told them about the house coming up for sale.
Lesley said: “They had seen the hall derelict for years and also my husband Andy had seen it like that and we just loved it as soon as we saw it. We saw the potential with the garden and the space and the four bedrooms.
” We have enjoyed living here. It has been nice to live in something that has got a bit of history.”
As well as maintaining the sash windows and decorating throughout, the Lords have invested a lot in the rear garden, which is very attractive and a much-used space.
The home also has further great potential with a huge empty loft.
Both the living room and dining room have French doors out to the garden and Lesley said that in the summer the garden was lovely.
Number 8’s very grand front door opens to the central reception hall. Off this is a handy cloakroom.
A door to the right opens to the rear facing breakfast kitchen with integrated gas hob with cooker hood above and oven below.
The room has space for a kitchen table. A further door opens to the utility room while a second one opens out to the garden.
Immediately next to the breakfast kitchen is the dining room. A charming room, it overlooks the garden and has a set of French doors to the garden and double butler doors into the living room.
The living room is also very attractive and gets a lot of natural light from a full height front sash window, a south facing side window and again French doors opening out to the garden.
Back from the reception hall, an attractive dog-leg turning staircase leads up to a galleried landing with built-in wardrobe.
The master bedroom faces the rear and is again a well-lit room and has an en suite shower room.
Bedrooms two and four are front-facing while bedroom three overlooks the rear garden.
The bathroom is at the rear, positioned between the two rear-facing bedrooms.
The house is painted in magnolia throughout and has natural-style carpeting. A charming and distinctive historic house, it lends itself beautifully to being a lovely family home of character in a stunning setting.
