Appeal fund tops £4,000

flying_doc_circle4.gifDonations big and small have been pouring in from our generous readers taking the running total of the Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal past the £4,000 mark.

The figure has been reached in just over 10 days since we launched the fundraising effort.

Our target is to raise £70,000 to fund a Flying Doctor to join the crew of the Shropshire-based air ambulance.

A Flying Doctor would be able to perform a range of on-the-spot surgical procedures which the existing paramedics are not allowed to do, taking the on-board medical capabilities of the helicopter to new heights.

The air ambulance is kept flying entirely through public fundraising, but our appeal is a specific, targeted fundraising effort on top, and cash raised for the Flying Doctor Appeal should be sent to our appeals office, the address of which is on our donation form.

Among the latest donations to the appeal is £100 from the residents of Sandino Court, Stirchley.

Meanwhile the League of Friends of the Barclay Gardens residential home in Donnington, Telford, is to hold a one-off Easter fair in aid of the appeal at the home on March 31, at 2pm.

“There will be a large raffle, a tombola stall, nearly new, cakes and so on,” said secretary Mrs Mary Wakeley.

“We normally raise the money for the residents to give them their little extras like outings and entertainment. For the last couple of years we have done a one-off for the Severn Hospice, and we thought we would do it for the Flying Doctor Appeal this year, as a one-off,” she said.
