Speculation over the future of regional newspapers is rife in this day and age.
One of the arguments for the continued existence of establishments like the Shropshire Star is the ability to get behind the headlines and bring home the impact stories in a way national newspapers never could.
At risk of sounding like I’m blowing the Shropshire Star’s trumpet (you wouldn’t want to hear that - I am tone deaf) there was perfect example of that tonight.
Nathan Rous’s look at the impact of post office closures is a real eye-opener. The case studies on those affected by the plans personalised the story brilliantly.
A huge map shows in stark detail what Shropshire and Mid Wales stands to lose (incidently, the map was painstakingly created by our graphic artist Michelle Dalton with research from our various branch offices after the Post Office refused to give details of locations).
Hopefully, through articles like this we can both do some good in our community and ensure that we retain a place in the 21st century world of rolling news channels and digital media.
