Last week I wrote about how EMA is a joke and was surprised by the comment I was left, writes our Teen Blogger Rhian.
He said ‘I had a cheek to moan’ and that ‘I should get a job’.
Well, for his information I do have a job where I work 17 hours a week. I only get paid £10 a week of EMA which may I add I use to pay for bus fare.
I do agree with James that the majority of students use their EMA for drugs and alcohol or just waste it on anything because they know next week they’re gonna get paid £30 again.
Next year I’m not going to even bother applying for EMA because the whole thing is a joke and a waste of time.
Yes, I have a job so I shouldn’t really be entitled to EMA but there are people out there who need EMA.
There’s a girl on my course who was thrown out at the age of 15 because of family differences and she gets £25 a week of EMA and works 18 hours a week but all the money she earns and is given doesn’t go on alcohol or things she wants - it goes towards her rent, travel expensives and her food for the week, the things she needs.
I can’t believe James was so quick to judge he doesn’t even know me and he thinks I waste my money on nothing.
People have got to realise we’re not all bad and though it may be hard to believe there are some good teenagers out there.

YOUR COMMENTS:
Rhian. I read your blog with interest.
I was reading your recent blog on the subject of EMAs: I agree with most of the stuff you say but disagree when you say [You] “do agree with James that the majority of students use their EMA for drugs and alcohol or just waste it on anything because they know next week theyre gonna get paid £30 again”.
I am now coming to the end of my degree, and did not benefit from the EMA: I wish we had something like it when I went to FE College: I think that even if you do waste your money on clothes, books transport, papers and lunch etc then from my view point firstly that is not waste and if it get more people in FE then that is good.
When James says you should get a job, frankly, it’s nonsense: The UK needs more teens in education for the future. I would urge you to apply for the EMA next yea. It’s yours - claim it!
Finally, I agree with you when you say “People have got to realise we’re not all bad and though it may be hard to believe there are some good teenagers out there but I would go further to say the majority of teen ages are good, its a very small minority who are bad!” Best wishes in your studies,
