I never wanted to go to Cardiff anyhow.
There’s nothing to do there and it’s full of nutters, so praise the lord that we were eliminated from the Johnstone Paint Trophy on Tuesday night by Bristol Rovers a.k.a ‘the gas’, to save us all the bother of going.
And lets face it, it would have downright rude and nasty to ruin Rovers’ season by preventing them from taking on their fellow Bristolian wurzels, City, in the Southern final.
Salop played like a team who hadn’t had a game in aeons, which we hadn’t. There was the odd bit of sparkle here and there from the likes of Asamoah and erm . . . Asamoah, but we never really looked like winning, and when we conceded a quite dreadful goal on the hour, the game was up.
And so as the final whistle was blown, Peters probably celebrated (he hates this cup), my Rovers supporting friend Jody Wilkinson, leapt about in delight, the Bristol Police Constabulary probably shrieked in terror at the prospect of two Bristol derbys to shepherd, and we, the Salopian faithful can all concentrate on the league again.
Good job really, as we’re now 15th. Thankfully with about 20 games in hand.
The transfer window has come and gone and it’s been very exciting. We’ve signed Boston Uniteds right back and extended the loan spell of two players, Mike Jones and Scott Shearer. I told you it was exciting.
Dale Williams (who??) has left for parts unknown, and dear old Neil Sorvel has moved on to Morecambe. Criminally, Ronaldo chose AC Milan, but who needs him when you have Leo Fortune West?
Saturday sees Salop at long long last play a league game, and what a perfect fixture to have, away at Mansfield Town, a ground that we never ever ever win at. I’ve been to Field Mill several times for my sins and each time has been a disaster.
Last season, we were 4-0 down after an hour and so I decided I’d seen enough and headed for the exits for an early retreat. But no, I found myself trapped in the car park and had to listen to the ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ from the Mansfield contingent for a further 30 minutes. Bliss.
In 2001 I saw Salop concede an injury time winner, and in 2005, I saw Carlton Palmer. Horrific memories.
As I intend to make the trek on Saturday, feel free to stroll down to the bookies and put large wads of cash on a home win. You know it makes sense. Anyhow, I’m off to tear up my Cardiff road maps and purchase some Wembley road maps.
We’re heading for the play-off final, trust me.
YOUR COMMENTS:
In making the following statement… “The transfer window has come and gone and it’s been very exciting. We’ve signed Boston United’s right back and extended the loan spell of two players, Mike Jones and Scott Shearer. I told you it was exciting.” … he’s obviously forgotten that we also signed Marc Tierney and secured a long-term contract for Symes.
Given that Canoville and Teirney are both considered pretty damn good players and that Symes is a class above, I would say yes it is exciting… ![]()
