Reward to catch raid culprits

Post Office chiefs have put up a £5,000 reward after a member of staff was attacked in a raid near Oswestry.

Martin Pilsbury, branch manager, was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital after being struck over the head by raiders at St Martin’s Post Office.

Police said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken in the raid in the Ellesmere Road post office, between 1pm and 2pm on Monday.

An investigation is under way by police, who today renewed an appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Darren Howells, who is leading the investigation, urged anybody who had seen anything suspicious but had not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

He said: “A reward of £5,000 has been offered by the Post Office for anybody who has information which will lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. We are following a number of avenues of enquiry.

“A number of people have already been spoken to and officers have carried out house to house enquiries. We want to hear from anyone who might have seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the Ellesmere Road area at the time. If anybody has not yet been spoken to by police but has any information which they think might be relevant, I would urge them to contact police.”

Anyone with information can call West Mercia Police on 08457 444888.
