Big village turnout for book

The Village Hall in All Stretton was full to capacity for the launch of a new book about the village. Called “All Stretton: History & Houses”, it contains 200 pages of information about people and properties in the village.

It was put together by the All Stretton History Group under the auspices of the Village Society and with generous funding from the Local Heritage Initiative.

Villagers researched a number of houses, their structure and social history, using many sources of information including manorial records and census returns. They were guided throughout by Mary McKenzie and Ivar Romo, using their experience working with Shropshire Archives.

The project has taken two and a half years and includes information on the 25 men named on the village War Memorial, many of whom have descendants still living in the area.

Invitations to the launch had been sent to the 260 households in the village, and each invitation could be exchanged for a free copy of the book.

Free drinks and “nibbles” and a slide show of old pictures were much enjoyed.

The book is available from Whinberries, All Stretton, priced £7.50. For further information contact Ivar Romo at Ivar.Romo@shropshire-cc.gov.uk
