Baffled by striker situation

glynn_hurst3.jpgHelp me readers. I’m baffled, writes Shrews blogger David Craig. I’m more baffled than when my Maths teacher tried to teach me Algebra. Picture the scene. You sign a striker in January 2006, a decent one at that. Due to niggling injury problems, he doesn’t quite set the world alight.

So in a bid to get him match fit and sharp you loan him out to a side in the same division as you, but who are a bit rubbish.

Whilst on that one month loan, he scores six, yes six, goals in seven games and is therefore clearly match fit, and sharper than a butchers knife. What would you do?

a) get him back to the banks of the river Severn quickly and slot him straight into the starting eleven for Saturday’s match?, or

b) extend his loan spell for another two months, so he can continue to break all goalscoring records for Bury?

You went for answer a) right??

Sadly, that is the wrong answer. Salop went with answer b. Yep, hence the baffled look on my face as I read the news. Although in fairness, I adopt that look most days.

I’m sure Peters has his reasons, and I’m not one to criticise a manager who has in the top half of the table for the first time in aeons.

But if on Saturday we watch Salop lose and, yet again, miss loads of chances then you know what the punters will be saying…

It would also appear that we have just one fit goalkeeper on our books, following Chris Neals return to Preston.

So anybody with a pair of gloves and big hands, get yourself down to Torquay on Saturday. This plea applies to anybody except Ian Dunbavin, Tim Clarke or Benny Gall.

So, it’s down to Basil Fawlty territory at the weekend for a game which I’ve quite frankly already written off.

We hardly ever win at Torquay, always seem to lose 2-1 if I’m not mistaken, and coupled with the fact that they have lost six games on the bounce, the law of averages surely suggests that they are ‘due a win’. Please Mr Law of Averages, stay away.

Anyhow, I’m off to chuckle at the latest AFC Tinpot match report…
