Wowsers, what an exciting last 24 hours for followers of the good ship Salop. After defeating the Worzels 2-1 in the Johnstone Paint thingy Cup on Tuesday evening, we all sat around our radios excitedly on Wednesday morning awaiting the draw for the Second Round.
A juicy encounter with former European Champions Nottingham Forest was surely going to be ours? Who did we get? Yeovil. Hmmmm . . .
After my heart rate had declined sufficiently enough following the surge of understandable euphoria at this news, I did realise that we have a darn good chance of making further progress as Yeovil aren’t really that much cop. They will surely crumble on the banks of the Severn as we make our march towards the Millenium Stadium.
As expected, Mr Peters fielded a number of “fringe players” during Tuesday’s win, and though a few of them emerged with credit, the star of the show was undoubtedly Michael Symes, pictured, who grabbed a fine brace.
Symes, who was signed by GP on a three-month contract, improves every time he plays and must surely be snapped up on a permanent deal after the initial contract expires.
With Glynn Hurst all set to return from Bury, the pressure will be on Asamoah and Cooke to start putting the ball in the onion bag.
This Saturday sees Salop entertain third placed Swindon, in what has all the makings of a corker. Like the Gyppos (Walsall), Swindon must really be wondering what they are doing in this division, after all they did play in the Premiership once.
However, they are here and seem to be going along nicely under the guidance of Dennis Wise. I can only presume chairman Willie Carson employed Wise as he was the only manager he could find who was of a similar height. Hopefully, we won’t hear Carson’s irritating laugh as he looks on at Salop’s defending . . .

YOUR COMMENTS:
Talking of Willie Carson and Dennis Wise’s height issues, I’ve heard that David Craig is only 5′ 3″. Is this true? Can we see his Shropshire Star medical report please?
