Woman killed as van hits lorry

A woman has died after a van and a heavy goods vehicle were involved in a collision on the south Shropshire border today.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, died in the crash on the A456 at Burford near Tenbury Wells.

She was driving a Vauxhall Movano flat-bed lorry towards Kidderminster when she was in collision with a Scania lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

The accident happened near Tenbury Showground, between the hospital and The Peacock Inn, at 2.23am.

Inspector Nigel Humphries, of West Mercia Police, said: “A female was killed in a collision between a van and a goods vehicle.

“Inquiries continue at this time.”

Two fire crews from Tenbury Wells and a heavy rescue unit from Droitwich used cutting equipment to free the woman.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Service, said: “The lorry driver, who we understand was Polish, was not injured.”

Meanwhile, a man in his 20s is is in a serious but stable condition following a two-car collision near Ludlow Golf Club, at Culmington, on Wednesday.
