An acclaimed author whose thrillers have won praise from fans and critics alike is planning a tour of book shops in Shropshire and neighbouring counties. Thriller writer Phil Rickman is touring the area to promote his new novel The Remains of An Altar, which is published by Quercus, priced £14.99, on October 5.
Today Emma Noble, public relations director for Quercus, said: “The book is the latest in the acclaimed Merrily Watkins thriller series, which is set in the Malvern Hills region.”
She said Mr Rickman, who lives near Hay-on-Wye, would visit Foxwoods Bookshop, at Corn Street, Leominster, on Friday from 11.30am to 12.30pm and Castle Bookshop, in Ludlow, on Friday, from 3pm to 4pm.
He will visit other stores in north Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Marches before returning to Shropshire on November 11 to visit Burway Books, at Beaumont Road, in Church Stretton, at 11am.
Mr Rickman’s crime series has been praised by critics in The Spectator, The Guardian and other newspapers and magazines.
Mrs Noble added that the story was set in the village of Wychehill, in the Malvern Hills. Mr Rickman is the author of seven Merrily Watkins’ Mysteries.
She said: “Merrily Watkins, deliverance consultant for the Diocese of Hereford, is called in when two people are killed in a head-on crash, the latest in a series of road accidents which some locals insist are linked to paranormal phenomena.”
