Allan takes up George’s baton

Allan Frost is taking over the baton from prolific Wellington author and historian George Evans with his latest book - one of a hat-trick of books Mr Frost is launching during October’s Wellington Literary Festival.

“Now that George Evans has decided not to write any more books on the history of the town, I’ve written ‘Wellington Shreds (and Patches)’ specifically to help fund Wellington Civic Society. All profits will go to them to support the work they do in promoting the town and protecting its past and future,” said Mr Frost.

“The book has chapters covering the history of the Wellington Journal and Wellington Standard newspapers, Groom’s famous timber yard, officialdom in 1889, and a collection of photographs showing old buildings and streets which no longer exist.”

Like Mr Evans - who is life president of the civic society - Mr Frost grew up in Wellington.

Also like Mr Evans, he has written a number of books about aspects of Wellington’s history, as well as about other areas of Telford.

The launch is at Wellington Library on October 24 from 6pm to 7.30pm. The book, which is published by Wellington Civic Society, will be available from local bookshops and costs £5.
