Shropshire woman Debbie Reynolds was bursting with happiness as she dressed up in the smartest outfit in her wardrobe for her sister Marie’s wedding.
The seconds ticked by and her joy turned to misery when the taxi failed to turn up on the big day, leaving her stranded at home.
But, better late than never, the taxi did eventually show up – one year later to the day, and dead on time.
Miss Reynolds said she was astonished when the taxi rolled up at her house – but could now see the funny side.
The taxi firm – Telford-based National Cars – had no-one available to comment on the mix-up, despite being contacted repeatedly by the Shropshire Star.
Miss Reynolds, from School Road, Madeley, said National Cars had told her at the time of the wedding that staff had no record of her booking.
She rang round other taxi firms in the hope that they could help and eventually found a neighbour to take her and her family, but by the time she got to Wellington Register Office, the ceremony was over.
Miss Reynolds’s sister Marie had wanted all of her 14 nieces and nephews as bridesmaids and pageboys on her big day but her three children, Craig, 15, Jake, 10, and four-year-old Kasey missed out on the chance to join their cousins.
Miss Reynolds, 35, said she had been “extremely upset” at the time but could now see the funny side.
She also booked two taxis from National Cars to bring her family home from the wedding reception in St Georges, which did turn up.
“I was really upset because by the time we got to the register office, the wedding was over,” she said.
“I did phone the taxi company and they said nothing was booked. Then a week ago on Saturday, a taxi turned up at noon. I said I hadn’t booked a taxi.
“It played on my mind all night and I thought I’d find out where I was supposed to be going. I phoned the taxi company and the woman I spoke to said it came up on their computer that the taxi was booked to take me to Wellington register office.
“I told her I was afraid they were a year too late!”
